Since it was first published, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up has sold over 1.3 million copies and was the No. 2 bestseller in 2012 Japanese book ranking (according to Tohan and Nippon Shuppan). Now, this is a detailed sequel to the book that took Japan by storm with its "Konmari Clean-up Method."
This book was written for the people who want to clean up and get organized but haven't yet managed to do so. It explains how to clean up perfectly.
The first thing you have to do in order to finish cleaning up completely is to discard. But it's not just about throwing things away randomly. The author says that we're able to live our ideal lives only when we discover how to keep the things that matter to us.
Gathering all sorts of knowledge on how to clean up doesn't necessarily mean that you'll actually become good at doing it.
If the first book was based on the idea that cleaning up is 90% in the mind and that the first thing you need to do is "discard," then the theme for this one is realizing your ideal home and lifestyle after throwing away the things that don't have a "pulsating magic."
Another feature of this book is that it uses illustrations and clear explanations for many things, from how to fold your clothes to how you should organize your closets, drawers and kitchen.
The author has fully explained what she teaches in her cleaning class, leaving nothing out. Without a doubt, this book will be a constant companion for people who want to clean up and even for those who already have. |

A word from the editor: |
As the editor of the first book, I am of course happy that the book became a million-seller, but the one thing that I'm really happy about is that my desk became dramatically neater. Before I organized my desk, it was such a dreadful sight that I'm sure it must have been in the top five worst-kept desks in publishing. Now, I'm confident that it's among the top five most-beautiful desks. Since I decided to have a Konmari-style cleaning festival, I've never once reverted to my old habits, and all my coworkers look at my desk and say, "It's impossible, it's a miracle." This is the moving and inspiring second installment of a book that has changed the lives of many people. It's packed with content that people who read the first book but still haven't finished getting organized will find extremely useful.
Nothing would make me happier than if you read this book and succeeded in cleaning up. |

About the author:Marie Kondo |
|
Marie Kondo is a cleaning consultant. She's a professional who has turned houses that are so cluttered that you can't see the floor into beautiful spaces that look like hotel suites.
Her one-on-one lessons have helped her clients get rid of over a million bags of trash. She started reading homemaking magazines like ESSE and Orange Page when she was in kindergarten. She loved cleaning, organizing, cooking and sewing while she was in elementary school, and she had the same commitment to these activities as a bride going through domestic training. When she was in her third year at junior high school, she read a book titled The Art of Discarding Things and was inspired to start seriously doing research on organizing and cleaning. While in her second year at university, she set up a consultation practice where she devised the "Konmari method of organizing and cleaning." Its selling point --after you clean once you won't have to do it again-- was well received, and she gained a steady flow of clients just by word of mouth. Her program for women, "Ladies' Cleaning Lesson," is also very popular.
So far, none of the clients who have followed her method have gone back to their old habits. In 2011, her first book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up (Sunmark), became a million-seller.
