and NEWS Mail--September 2019 Issue
Hello, I’m Akiko Kuwajima, a book editor and a staff member of the Rights Department at Sunmark Publishing.
Recently, a book I was in charge of, The Art of the Good Life: 52 Surprising Shortcuts to Happiness, by Rolf Dobelli from Switzerland, has been making a hit in Japan. This book has sold 150,000 copies in 4 months. I’m happy, because it’s not only very interesting but also a great book.

Before the Coffee Gets Cold, still active several years after its release.
Before the Coffee Get Cold, our bestselling novel of 2015, has been sold and translated into 16 languages so far. Some have been published already, and among them, the Complex Chinese edition became a bestseller. At the beginning of this year, the author was invited to Taiwan to do a tour of bookstores and join some events at the Taiwan International Book Fair.
The story takes place at a small coffee shop, where you can travel back to the past. But it has some rather complicated rules for traveling. You can only go back to your past while the coffee is still warm, and you are not able to change the past. There are four short stories in the book, each one of them filled with emotions that we can relate to ourselves.

A picture book about war that makes children laugh!
“Gentlemen! Nobody cries in this war, so it’s difficult to determine a victory!”
This is a unique picture book!
Even though it’s about war, it makes children laugh with every turn of the page!
They laugh so hard their stomachs hurt.
No need to worry, mom and dad. It has a very poignant ending that will surprise you.
Without further ado, here is a summary!
One night, the protagonist starts to play war, but it isn’t any ordinary war!
“Gentlemen, if you make your enemy laugh, you win!”
That’s right. There’s only one rule in this war. Making your enemy laugh ensures victory. War tactics include attacks with “poop missiles” and “tickle machine guns.” So, what was the outcome!?
Isn’t this a better way to deal with tough times?
This deep, historical and utterly annoying picture book will change your perspective!
The title will likely startle you at first glance, but please remain calm! The message in this book is not at all one of violence. On the contrary, if the type of war you see in this book came true, it would probably make the entire world laugh. When this story is read to children, they giggle so hard their stomachs hurt. If you’re wondering what on earth could be that funny, take a look for yourself!
