Sunmark Publishing Rights Highlights
and NEWS Mail--October 2017 Issue
Hi, my name is Naoki Umeda, and I’m a member of the Rights Department at Sunmark Publishing. This month I have a big event coming up soon, which is the birth of my first child! (Probably a boy, I’ve been told.) To welcome the baby into our home, we have a lot of things to do. Above all, deciding on his name is a very, very big matter for us right now.
In Japan, to decide a baby’s name, parents consider both the sound and the stroke count of the kanji (“Chinese” characters) used for that name. The number of strokes in a kanji (for example, the kanji “木” has 4 strokes) used in a name is so important, because the number of strokes has special significance. For instance, 15 strokes is believed to make the child brave, and so on. In your country, what do parents place importance on when they name their children?

Frankfurt Book Fair again this year
One of our annual events is coming up. We’re attending the Frankfurt Book Fair again this year. As you all may know, it will be held from October 11th to 15th. Just as before, we’ll share our stand with the American publisher Beyond Words, in Hall 6.0 D4.
If you happen to be near, please come by to visit us. We’ll be displaying our representative works as well as newly published ones.
Editors of the Month
I’m Ryu-yan. I edited A Compass to Fulfillment by Kazuo Inamori, which has sold over 1.2 million copies in Japan and more than 2 million copies in China. I also edited The Hidden Messages in Water by Masaru Emoto, which, by series, has sold over 2 million copies worldwide. Those are just a couple of the books I’ve edited. I favor books of the “spiritual” or “science of humanity” genre. Therefore I believe that the more I am into a genre, the more I can do a good job. For instance, four times I’ve visited the Findhorn Community, which is a spiritual community in Scotland. Also I edited 8 books of Shimin Sakamura, who is an eminent poet in Japan and whom I respect as the master of my life.
I would like to edit books while having fun, my motto being “Make known the way to live in order to be happy”.

I Am Who I Was Meant to Be by Rio Inyaku
I’m a working mother with two children. It’s hard to find spare time in my daily life, but playing with my kids is always the most precious, refreshing time of my day.
As an editor, I’d love to take on a variety of genres and writing styles.
My dream for now is that Lessons From a Sadistic Universe When I Was 20,000,000 Yen in Debt, a book that I edited, will be translated into many different languages around the world.

No diet plans actually work.
You regain lost weight almost immediately.
It seems like your bottom and breasts continue to sag.
All of these are influenced by the placement of our intestines.
After meeting with over 5,000 patients, author Saki Ono affirmed that the placement of our intestines influences our weight and figure. As waste matter becomes more difficult to pass and body fat builds up, it becomes more difficult to lose weight, and parts of the body begin to sag under the added stress. Since our intestines are close to eight meters long, it’s no wonder our body sags with that extra weight.
Your worries are over! By doing the simple stretch recommend by Ono, you will not only lose weight, but your body will perk up. With only one 15-minute exercise, it takes little effort and little time to improve your figure. The book’s illustrations make the process fun as well.
Prologue Women with higher-positioned intestines stay in shape.
Chapter 1 A dissection of a fit body
Chapter 2 What happens when our intestines fall?
Chapter 3 This amazing stretch will improve your figure in just 15 seconds.
Chapter 4 Work at it a little bit every day.
Chapter 5 Foods that prevent sagging
I was surprised when I first heard that the positioning of our intestines influences our weight and figure. There are many books about the importance of intestinal bacteria and flora, but this is the first about the placement of the intestines. This new and important knowledge needs to become more widespread. Also, humorous illustrations featuring such characters as Mrs. Dirty Intestines, the Large Bowel Family and the Small Bowel Family make this book a fun read. This is surely the world’s most interesting and easy-to-understand book about intestinal health.
