Marie Kondo was in the USA

Marie Kondo, the author of The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up and Spark Joy,

visited the USA in April. She took part in a talk event in Los Angeles, appeared on TV shows, and did some other media work. Amazingly, her first title is still on the multiple bestseller lists, and it’s the No.1 bestselling book of 2016 on Amazon.com so far.  It looks like her triumph is still going on, and we’re looking forward to seeing what will happen next.

Good Blood Flow Can Resolve Everything

by Akiyoshi Horie

ISBN978-4-7631-3536-0 C0036

267 pages / March 2016 / 1,300 yen (w/o tax)

A popular Chinese herbal medicine specialist’s groundbreaking hygiene practices that improve blood flow and bodily health.

Description

This book presents “ways to eliminate problems of the mind and body by increasing blood flow.” This may sound a little over the top, but it isn’t at all. The blood is responsible for providing oxygen and nutrients to the 60 trillion cells in our body and also influences the movement of neurotransmitters in the brain which trigger our happiness and energy hormones. If we have poor blood flow, our bodies will not receive the required support and nourishment, causing poor health. In other words, improving blood flow can do wonders for your body and mind! This idea of improving blood flow may remind many of a recent health fad. There are a number of people, especially women, who have poor blood flow due to a low production of blood in the body. It’s important to allow for more blood production so that blood flow can improve. The author of this book, a Kampo medicine (Chinese herbal medicine) specialist, introduces ways to improve eating, sleeping and other everyday habits for better blood flow. I encourage you to try all of these simple methods.

From the table of contents

Chapter 1   All of your health troubles are caused by poor blood flow

Chapter 2   Blood flow improves with this process: “produce, increase, flow”

Chapter 3   10 facts: eating habits for producing more blood

Chapter 4   6 things to know about how proper sleep can help blood production

Chapter 5   5 ways to improve blood flow through your veins

Chapter 6   Good blood flow can carry away all health worries

Chapter 7   Improved blood flow will clear your mind

From the editor

Are you experiencing health troubles and worries that seem impossible to mend even after trips to the doctor? There may be an unexpected cause for these health issues: poor blood flow. The biggest surprise for me was on page 140, where the author explains that experiencing dreams while we sleep is due to a lack of blood in the body. I didn’t realize that blood has so much influence on how we sleep. This book contains a wealth of information on how to improve your health–dieting tips, ways to ease menstrual pain, and much more. Start by checking the section of this book that relates to your own health worries.

Akiyoshi Horie

Akiyoshi Horie is a Kampo medicine specialist, infertility counselor, owner of Horie Pharmacy and a representative on the board of directors for the Japan Association of Chinese Medicine. Born in Izumoshi, Japan, in 1974, he is the fourth generation of a Chinese medicine pharmacy that has been located on the road leading to the famous Izumo Grand Shrine in Shimane for about 90 years. After graduating with a pharmaceutical degree, he became fascinated with Oriental medicine, namely Chinese medicine. This was an abrupt change in gears, since Oriental medicine differs greatly from Western medicine. While studying in China, he was surprised to learn that a friend struggling with infertility had regained fertility after using Chinese medicinal remedies. This encouraged him to begin specializing in Chinese medicine within his own gynecology practice. Chinese medicine is unique in its power to improve the way our mind operates, other than simply remedying general health issues. His approach consists of a synthesis of Western medicine, Chinese medicine and psychology, with a focus on blood flow. The approach works, having brought him great success as he’s dealt with over 50,000 cases including those related to infertility, depression, dieting and autonomic ataxia.

Since his humble beginnings in his hometown of Shimane, he has gotten to a point of being solidly booked up to months in advance, with many consultation requests coming from overseas as well. He receives a number of patients who went to general hospitals for infertility treatment with little to no success. In 2015 alone, he cured 155 patients. Since 2009, he has treated 614 patients for infertility. Having been inaugurated as a representative of the board of directors for the Japan Association of Chinese Medicine, he continues to strive to spread knowledge about Chinese medicine and change lives.

191 pages / February 2016 / 1,300 yen (w/o tax)

How to feel amazingly limber

Description

“If I don’t stretch, I pull a muscle when I run.”

“I hate it that my body is always stiff.”

“I hate exercising! But stretching might be okay.”

“My usual stretch routine doesn’t seem to be doing anything.”

“I don’t know how to stretch properly.”

There are a lot of good reasons to get interested in stretching. This book touches on all of them and provides the best ways to stay limber and feel great.

Author Nakano James Shuichi is the physical trainer for the Aoyama Gakuin University long-distance running team, which has won the Hakone long-distance relay race multiple times. He is also the bestselling author of Today’s Stretch, which sold over 100,000 copies. For more than 25 years he has trained top athletes, celebrities and other men and women of all ages. Working with many different body types, he found the stretch positions that work the best, even for those who are stiff and suffer from body pain. All of his most recommended stretch positions are introduced in this book.

Also included are stretches that can be done while lying down, sitting down, standing or with a partner. Some of these, of course, will depend on how much space is available to you. There are also plenty of stretch positions that simply feel great.

This book concentrates on stretching methods that are not only easy to follow but also easy on the body. All of these methods are definitely worth a try.

From the editor

Most people only do the type of stretching that they learned in school. I was the same way. I always thought the most important thing was simply to stretch, regardless of how it’s done. However, once I tried the stretching techniques in this book, parts of my body that had never been properly stretched became limber. There are certain movements and positions I didn’t realize were so important, and I now understand where my body’s weaknesses were. Parts of my body that I’d been stretching regularly began to be more limber than ever before. It’d be great if the stretches in this book could become the new standard.
